Com os olhos no futuro : urbanização e modernidade no projeto editorial da Revista do Globo (1929-1935)

Abstract

Esse trabalho trata do discurso da modernidade no projeto editorial da Revista do Globo entre os anos de 1929 e 1935, através da análise de seus artigos e reportagens, instituindo novos modos de viver e pensar a cidade. A análise do projeto editorial permitiu examinar essa prática discursiva no contexto de transição da ordem oligárquica para a nova ordem burguesa. Na medida em que essa transição ocorreu na República Velha (1889-1930), novos grupos sociais precisaram ser incorporados política, econômica, social e ideologicamente e a Revista do Globo surge como um produto dessa conjuntura, legitimando-se como um veículo informativo moderno que instaurou a experiência da modernidade, apontando para os novos horizontes burgueses. A hipótese central desse trabalho é de que a Revista do Globo no Rio Grande do Sul, possuiu um papel aglutinador desta nova mentalidade moderna que passou a consolidar-se a partir da transição das ordens na República Velha. Sendo um dos primeiros agentes culturais na região, a revista incorporou elementos diversos que a tornaram popular entre o público leitor, através de um projeto editorial voltado para a padronização cultural e para a instauração da modernidade, a qual se deu pelo discurso e pela prática, cujo processo de reestruturação e urbanização da cidade constituíram uma nova dimensão aos modos de viver e pensar a sociedade urbano-industrial. Confirmando seu caráter aglutinador, produzindo um discurso voltado para a construção de um novo imaginário burguês, a Revista do Globo instituiu em suas páginas a intersecção de pontos importantes: o discurso político, a transformação social com a remodelação urbana e a tecnologia como responsáveis pela experiência da modernidade em Porto Alegre.

This work deals with the modernity speech of the Revista do Globo editorial between years 1929 and 1935, through the analysis of its articles and reportages, instituting new ways of living and thinking the city. The editorial project analysis allowed the examination of this discursive practice in the transition context from the oligarchic order to the new bourgeois order. In the progress this transition occurred in the Old Republic (1889-1930), new social groups needed to be incorporated politic, economical, social and ideologically and the Revista do Globo arises as a product of this conjuncture, legitimating itself as a modern informative vehicle that stated the modernity experience, pointing to the new bourgeois horizons. The central hypothesis of this work is that the Revista do Globo in the Rio Grande do Sul has a combination role of this new modern understanding that started to consolidate itself from the Old Republic orders transition. Being one of the first cultural agents in the region, the magazine incorporated diverse elements that made it popular among the readers, through an editorial project oriented to the cultural standardization and to the modernity instauration, that occurred by the speech and by the practice, whose city re-structuralization and reurbanization process constituted a new dimension to the thinking and living ways the urbanindustrial society. Confirming its combination role, producing a speech oriented to the building of a new burgeois imaginary, the Revista do Globo instituted in its pages the intersection of important points: the politic speech, the social transformation with the urban remodelation and the technology as the responsibles for the modernity experience in Porto Alegre.
