A desgraça da moral (da história) ou : os ardis poéticos de Disgrace/Desonra

Abstract

Esse artigo analisa a estrutura deliberadamente ambígua dos conflitos (entre gerações, classes sociais, gêneros e etnias) em Desonra. O foco particular é a análise dos afetos e desentendimento geracionais que unem os personagens principais, pai e filha, tanto quanto os dividem. O manejo do foco narrativo e a forma alusiva, suspensa e inconclusa com que Coetzee embute acontecimentos exteriores e interiores obriga o leitor a reconstruir, de modo imaginário, individual e singular, possibilidades de visão dos fatos e de interpretação de opiniões e ideias, cuja validade ou falsidade nunca é confirmada, embora essa ambiguidade jamais dissolva de verdade e retidão ética.

This article analyses the deliberately ambiguous structure of the conflicts (between generations, social classes, genders and ethnical groups) in Disgrace. The focus will be the analysis of generational bonds between the two main figures of the novel, the misunderstandings and frictions linking and opposing father and daughter. The cunning use of shifting points of view and the allusive (and elusive) form of the narrative which fuses exterior and interior events obliges the reader to reconstruct, mostly based on his own imaginative capacities, the different possible visions of the same facts, opinions and ideas, whose validity or falsity cannot be confirmed, although atmosphere conveyed by the novel never renounces the ideal of ethical truth and emotional authenticity.
