In recent years the world has been undergoing a significant revolution in the energy field. The main reason for the occurrence of this situation is the introduction of a new technology, hydraulic fracturing, and that has enabled the extraction of significant amounts of natural gas trapped in shale rock formations, shale gas, primarily in North America. This fact is causing structural changes in the energy and global petrochemical market. Thus, this study sought to analyze the direction taken by the gas and industrial sectors, more specifically the chemical industry through the polyethylene resins, from the introduction of a greater supply of natural gas initially in the U.S. and later the world's territory. From this, the study sought to analyze the situation with the Brazilian petrochemical sectors and the relationship that these markets present with the introduction of this new technology in another country. The focus of this research is to investigate through a comparison of the economic boom caused in the U.S. and the consequences generated in Brazil, as well as possible barriers which prevent the further development of industrial sectors presented. By analyzing the two countries separately is possible to see a migration of investment to the United States, increasing the export of chemicals produced from increased supply of natural gas. Therefore thus entails stoppage in Brazilian investments besides making domestic products less attractive due to the lower cost of production in the U.S. reached.en
