Indexação de materiais cartográficos: um estudo exploratório

Abstract

Estudo exploratório que analisa as recomendações existentes no Brasil para a indexação de materiais cartográficos. Adota a pesquisa bibliográfica como técnica de pesquisa para aprofundar os conceitos a serem tratados, bem como as suas relações com o tema da pesquisa. Caracteriza material cartográfico como objeto de estudo da Cartografia: o mapa, e por extensão, os outros recursos de representação por traço (a carta e a planta). Considera os recursos cartográficos como representações que englobam todos os tipos de informações geográficas, bem como sua estrutura, suas funções e relações. Diferencia bibliotecas especializadas em Geociências de outros tipos de bibliotecas especializadas. Identifica os principais instrumentos que contribuem para a indexação de materiais cartográficos. Aponta premissas para a leitura técnica de materiais cartográficos a partir da leitura cartográfica como subsídio para a leitura geográfica. Conclui que os instrumentos identificados na pesquisa contribuem para a consistência na recuperação da informação e para a qualidade do sistema de informação pela padronização das entradas de nomes geográficos como assunto e pela proposição de termos ligados às geotecnologias, às Ciências, campos do conhecimento e técnicas para a aquisição de informações geográficas e cartográficas. Sinaliza que a leitura técnica de mapas temáticos deve privilegiar as impressões visuais do bibliotecário indexador, contemplando a identificação das derivações temáticas da representação e a sua relação com os materiais de base. Identifica possibilidades de pesquisa a serem desenvolvidas em estudos posteriores, principalmente com relação às especificidades da análise do conteúdo temático de recursos gráficos e visuais e à utilização de informações cartográficas como descritores, o que poderá contribuir para uma maior precisão do sistema de informação de bibliotecas especializadas em Geociências e áreas afins.

Exploratory study that analyzes the recommendations in Brazil for indexing cartographic materials. It adopts the bibliographic search as a research technique to deepen the concepts that will be studied, as well as its relations with the search theme. It characterizes cartographic materials as Cartography study object: the map, and consequently the other representation resources by contour (base maps in middle and big scale and local maps in big and very big scale). It considers the cartographic resources as representations that include all the kinds of geographic information, as well as their structure, their functions and relations. It differs specialized libraries in Geosciences of other kinds of specialized libraries. It identifies the main instruments that contribute to the cartographic materials indexing. It points assumptions to the technique reading of cartographic materials from cartographic reading as a subside to the geographic reading. It concludes that the instruments identified in the search contribute to the consistence in information recovering and to the information system quality by the standardization of geographic names entering as subject and by proposition of terms related to the Geotechnology, to the sciences, to the knowledge fields and techniques to the geographic and cartographic information acquisition. It denotes that the technique reading of thematic maps should focus the visual impressions of the indexer librarian, contemplating the identification of the representation thematic derivation and its relation with the base materials. It identifies search possibilities to be developed in future studies, especially with respect to the analysis specificities of the thematic content of graphic and visual resources and the use of cartographic information how descriptors, which could contributes to a higher precision of the information system of specialized Geosciences libraries and related fields.
