Flows over wavy surfaces are important for many engineering applications and environmental problems. Understanding its behavior is necessary to know how the curvature affects the flow resistence, the mechanisms of bed motion and of the sediment transport, and the largescale atmospheric moviments. The main objective of this work is to study the turbulent flow dynamics into a channel with a bottom wavy wall using the Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) technic. It was used a Reynolds number of 7000 and an aspect ratio of 0.053 to reproduce the flow field and identify its main characteristics, calculate the essential turbulent statistics and represent some of the structures near the wall. A low-storage third-order Runge-Kutta Method and a sixth-order Compact Finite Differences schemes were used for the temporal and spatial discretization, respectively, of the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations. Periodic boundary conditions were adopted in streamwise and spanwise directions, free-slip condition in the vertical direction and no-slip condition at the surfaces, which were represented by the Virtual Boundary Method (VBM). Initially DNS of bidimensional flows over wavy surfaces had been carried through to determine the VBM parameters and the best form to represent the obstacle, to evaluate the influence of the mesh resolution and to verify the effect of the confinement. Also was analysed turbulent channel flow between two flat plates, aiming to validate the methodology employed and to generate a flow field to start the wavy channel flow simulation. The simulation of the flat channel presented an asymmetry in the flow field, with a larger turbulence intensity and a better convergence statistics in the top wall, where the statistical results had agreed well with the reference datas. The turbulent flow dynamic in the channel with a wavy wall was very good represented, and was verified the formation of a free shear-layer over the crist and a small recirculation region near the wall, in the vicinity of the vale. The waving wall effects on the flow and the statistics of turbulence had agreed well with others reference works. The mean velocity field presented vertical profiles with a standard logarithmic distribution of the flows over wavy surfaces. Coherent structures of the flow, such as the longitudinal vortices and the regions with high and low-speed fluid (streaks), had been identified.en
