Tanatografias da aids nas artes visuais : o corpo enfermo diante da morte e da fotografia

Abstract

Esta pesquisa investiga a relação entre aids e artes visuais tendo como referência obras fotográficas de três artistas. Problematizam-se sujeitos enfermos diante da morte iminente deflagrada pela doença ao final dos anos 1980 e início dos anos 1990, entendendo a aids como um dos fatos que marcaram a história social e contemporânea. Para tal, a investigação referencia perspectivas teóricas cujos textos analisam o impacto da doença, sua relação com a morte e, especialmente, a produção de imagens de natureza fotográfica. O trabalho fundamenta-se na proposta de Douglas Crimp a respeito da análise discursiva sobre a aids, como caminho teórico-metodológico para compreender a representatividade do meio fotográfico tanto em relação à enfermidade, quanto às práticas pós-modernas na arte. A metodologia utilizada nesta dissertação é a análise de fotografias de Nicholas Nixon, Willian Yang e Mark Morrisroe. Procura-se nestes artistas visuais identificar o deslocamento do biográfico para o tanatográfico. Assim, relacionam-se as produções destes artistas e as teorias sobre os discursos por eles apresentadas. As peculiaridades de suas abordagens, bem como seus pontos de contato e de distensão, articulam diferentes discursos acerca da moléstia, com destaque para a presença do caráter elegíaco atravessado pelas diferentes possibilidades da arte pós-moderna, tais como a permanência de aspectos do cânone moderno da arte e da fotografia e a abordagem do eu através da recuperação de práticas pré-modernas, além da problematização da alteridade na produção artística. O deslizamento conceitual entre Eros e Tânatos e a análise aqui apresentada inserem os discursos destes corpos desejosos numa perspectiva capaz de potencializar novas leituras sobre a mútua influência entre arte e aids através da fotografia.

This research investigates the relation between aids and visual arts with reference to photographic works of three artists. In the face of imminent death triggered by the disease in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the sick people will be discussed, understanding AIDS as one of the events that marked the social history and contemporary history. To this end, this research reference theoretical perspectives that analyze the impact of the disease and their relationship to death and especially the production of photographic images. The work is based on the proposal of Douglas Crimp about the discursive analysis of aids, as a theoretical and methodological approach to understand the representativeness of the photographic medium both in relation to sickness, as the post-modern practices in the art. The methodology used in this work is the analysis of photographs by Nicholas Nixon, William Yang and Mark Morrisroe. In the work of these artists seeks to identify changing the biographic to the thanatographic. Thus relate to the production of these artists, and theories about the speeches presented by them. The peculiarities of their approaches and points of contact and distension, articulate different discourses about the disease, highlighting the presence of the elegiac character crossed by the different possibilities of postmodern art, such as the permanence of aspects of the modern canon art and photography and the approach of the self through the recovery of pre-modern practices, also questioning the otherness of artistic production. The conceptual slippage between Eros and Thanatos and the analysis presented here insert the speeches of these desirous bodies in a perspective able to leverage new readings on the interplay between art and AIDS through photography.
