The biological nitrogen fixation can supply all needed nitrogen to soybean. However, several factors can affect the expression of the maximum efficiency of this process. Both sown and soil mobilization can increase soil organic matter mineralization and it can release nitrogen to soil solution, which can be enough to limit the biological fixation, but insufficient to supply all the needs of the soybean N. The aimed of this research was: (Study I) to evaluate the soybean response to inoculation under different management systems; (Study II) to verify the existence of interactions among Bradyrhizobium strains and soybean genotypes which are more tolerant to the presence of mineral nitrogen; (Study III) to evaluate the genetic variability of Bradyrhizobium strains after their introduction into the soil and to identify the strains present in soybean nodules collected in the field. (Study I) The nodules were counted and the dry mass measured. They also was measured the nitrogen content, the dry mass of soybean plant and the soil mineral nitrogen in field experiment. (Study II) The interactions among Bradyrhizobium and resistant to mineral nitrogen soybean genotypes were carried out in Leonard jars with nutritious solution. In this experiment it was used four nitrogen doses (0, 8, 16 and 24mM), four soybean genotypes and four Bradyrhizobium strains. (Study III) The genetic variability and nodules occupancy of the rhizobia introduced in the soil were evaluated in isolated microorganisms obtained from soybean nodules collected in the field. (Study I) The inoculation positively affected the number of nodules and its mass, the above ground dry mass and nitrogen content. (Study II) The tolerance of BNF to increasing of mineral nitrogen was variable and it was dependent of soybean genotype (BRS-Torena the most tolerant) and of Bradyrhizobium strain (SEMIA 587 and SEMIA 5019 more resistants). (Study III) The genetic variability was larger in the no tillage than in the conventional tillage, larger in the mineral fertilization than in the organic. Similar fact was observed in the wheat or oat cultivation compared with oat and hairy vetch. The SEMIA 587 and SEMIA 5019 presented a nodule occupation of 92% characterizing them as more competitive Bradyrhizobium strains.en
