The present experiment aimed to evaluate the immunoglobulin absorption in newborn piglets by the immunocrit technique. In the study, sera from 135 piglets from females of different birth orders were analyzed. The parturitions were assisted and the piglets remained with their biological mothers. Blood samples were collected 24 hours after birth by cranial vena cava puncture, and then centrifuged (1258 g) for 2 min to obtain serum. Samples were refrigerated to transport to UFRGS and frozen at -20 °C. After thawing, 50 μl serum were homogenized with 50 μl 40% (NH4)2SO4 and placed in hematocrit microcapillary tubes to centrifuged (10,621 g) for 5 min to precipitate the immunoglobulins. The immunocrit was determined by the ratio of the column height of the precipitate to the total column height. There was no statistical difference in immunocrit rate between sex, birth weight and weight after 24 hours of the piglets. Piglets that ingested more than 79 g of colostrum and piglets with weight higher than 110 g in the first 24 hours after birth had higher rates of immunocrit. Piglets from numerous litters and piglets with order of birth above 14 had lower immunocrit values.en
