The drawing process presents consolidated studies focused on the knowledge of the operation and the improvement of the results. The main current researches of this process approach the increase of drawing speed, which requires greater attention to the conditions of lubrication and friction. However, measuring these conditions is still a hard job. Therefore, this work consists in the realization of drawing using two different lubrication conditions and the verification of the friction caused by each one. For this, SAE 1020 steel test specimens were drawn with a 12,7% reduction in a universal testing machine without the use of any lubrication and with the addition of lubricating oil. The force required for drawing was observed in the equipment and used in the calculation of Siebel and Sachs theoretical models to obtain the coefficient of friction. Characterizations were made in the material, such as surface roughness measurements, microhardness profiles and metallography to analyze the modifications caused by drawing. Surface residual stresses measurements were also performed after drawing, in order to verify the influence of the friction in this parameter. It was observed the high dimensional accuracy of the process and the improvement of the surface finish of the material, with reductions of more than 70% of the Ra parameter. There were no significant changes in the microhardness and microstructure in the final product For drawing experiments without using lubrication an average of 19,95 kN was obtained for the force and friction coefficients of 0,34 and 0,40, according to the Siebel and Sachs theoretical models, respectively. Likewise, experiments using lubricating oil had an average force of 17,02 kN and friction coefficients of 0,24 and 0,27. Measurements of surface residual stresses after drawing resulted in average traction values to 265 MPa for the lubricated experiment and 277 MPa for the non-lubricated experiment. The work consolidated the possibility of conducting drawing experiments in a universal testing machine and demonstrated that estimates of the friction coefficients can be obtained by theoretical models, collaborating for a better understanding of the friction conditions of the process.en
