Since the introduction of the Free Contracting Environment (ACL), the marketing of energy in the Brazilian power sector has become more dynamic, as a result of this, several new regulatory action has been taken by the government and by regulatory agencies. At the beginning of ACL, the lack of consistent regulation prevented the success of the free energy market. However, in 2004 several changes through laws and decrees made more solid the possibility of incorporating companies in this new energy trading business. Because of this new current energy trading order in the country, this paper proposed a cost analysis between the captive and free market for an ACL potential customer. The results show that in recent years the choice by the free market has been more economical, with close to 30% reductions in energy costs in 2016. ...
