dc.description.abstractThe aim of this article is to discuss questions involving principles of Education during the first and second Republican governments in Brazil. We analyse contradictions between the model of education planned by workers - the Rationalist School - and the model of education adopted by the Ministry of Education during the government of Getulio Vargas. The results of this research show that as well as the educational actions, the instruments used by teachers at public schools, such as anthologies and grammars, only contribute to the reproduction of non- creative and unqualified pupils.en
