Elites culturais e pós-materialismo : opinião pública sobre as relações internacionais

Abstract

Esta monografia é um estudo pertencente à grande área de cultura política. A problemática que é respondida por este trabalho é “como as elites culturais e a manifestação de visões pós-materialistas sobre temas de Relações Internacionais contemporâneos se diferenciam na América Latina?”, cujo objetivo geral é compreender e explicar se, na América Latina, as elites culturais e seus valores pós-materialistas podem se diferir de elites de outros países a partir das opiniões que estes apresentam acerca de temáticas de relações internacionais. O período histórico utilizado será o compreendido entre 2010-2014, por se tratar do período abordado pela sexta onda de valores, e pela disponibilidade de dados referentes aos países latino-americanos. A metodologia empregada é a do método quantitativo, em que os conceitos tornam-se perguntas em um questionário estruturado aplicado em amostras probabilísticas nacionais nos seguintes países: Argentina, Brasil, México, Uruguai. Colômbia, Chile e Peru. O método quantitativo permitirá, que se verifiquem quais são as perguntas ou variáveis que operacionalizam os conceitos de pós-materialismo e elites culturais na América Latina a partir de Ronald Inglehart. Ao longo deste trabalho, tratar-se-á do pós-materialismo, segundo a visão de Inglehart e sua manifestação na América Latina a fim de descobrir a opinião de latino-americanos de diferentes elites culturais sobre temas relacionados com Relações Internacionais para que se possa compreender como as visões de grupos com valores pós-materialistas podem se diferir das visões dos outros. Assim, conclui-se, a partir desta análise, que a maneira que as elites culturais e seu pós-materialismo sobre temas de Relações Internacionais se diferenciam na região é por meio, não apenas das raízes históricas e legado ibérico dos países, mas principalmente pelas diferentes opiniões públicas que os cidadãos desenvolveram, ao menos durante a Sexta Onda, sobre pautas de Relações Internacionais.

This monograph is a study that belongs to the field of political culture. The problem that is at the center of this paper is “how do cultural elites and the manifestation of post-materialist views regarding contemporary International Relations topics differ in Latin America?”. The main objective of this study is to understand and explain if latin-american cultural elites and their post-materialist values differ from those of other countries’ elites by looking at the opinions that they present regarding international relations topics. The historical period of this study occurs between 2010 and 2014 since it coincides with the Sixth Value Wave and because of the availability of data on latin-american countries. The methodology utilized is of a quantitive nature, in which the concepts become questions in a structured survey that is then deployed in national probabilistic samples in the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay. Colombia, Chile and Peru. A quantitative method will permit that we verify which questions or variables are able to operationalize the concepts of post-materialism and cultural elites in Latin America as elaborated upon by Ronald Inglehart. Inglehart’s postmaterialism and its manifestation in Latin America will be explored throughout this study with the intention of discovering the opinion of different latin-american cultural elites regarding International Relations topics in order to better comprehend how groups with post-materialist values may have differing opinions when compared to other groups. Therefore, with this analysis, we conclude that the way that the cultural elites and their postmaterialism on International Relations themes differ in the region is through not only the historical roots and Iberian legacy of the countries, but mainly by the different public opinions that citizens developed, at least during the Sixth Wave, on International Relations.
