Língua, história e subjetividade na perspectiva de representantes da filosofia da linguagem do Leste e do Oeste europeu

Abstract

A presente pesquisa investiga de que forma a Filosofia da linguagem nas primeiras décadas do século XX mantém seu foco sobre as relações entre língua, história e subjetividade. Para isso, realizamos a leitura de dois expoentes dos estudos da linguagem no Oeste e no Leste europeu. Os estudos do linguista alemão Karl Vossler são pioneiros no contexto do Oeste europeu na medida em que colocam em destaque a língua em suas relações com a subjetividade e com a história cultural de uma comunidade, o que envolve pensar em um conceito específico de gramática e de língua em relação à questão nacional. Realizamos a leitura da obra de Vossler (1951; 1963; 2015) com vistas às suas reflexões sobre a língua em relação com a história cultural e com a ideia de comunidade linguística, o que nos leva a compreender de que modo Vossler concebe a subjetividade na língua. Além disso, as considerações de Vossler sobre a gramática permitem delinear o conceito de língua em seu pensamento. O linguista russo Valentin Volochinov desenvolve, em sua obra Marxismo e Filosofia da Linguagem (2018), um conceito material de língua que se sustenta sobre a perspectiva do signo ideológico. O autor constrói uma teoria que problematiza os estudos da linguagem sob uma perspectiva materialista, conferindo à língua um estatuto ideológico, e a colocando em relação com o que é de ordem social e histórica. Ao construir a sua tese, Volochinov faz uma crítica a duas tendências do pensamento filosófico-linguístico. Entre elas, o autor denomina o subjetivismo individualista como a primeira tendência, que teria Vossler como um dos seus maiores representantes. Diante disso, é preciso considerar as condições históricas de produção das obras acima relacionadas. Por isso, em um capítulo de abertura, exploramos teoricamente o conceito de condições de produção sob a ótica de Michel Pêcheux (2009), (2010) e de Jean Jacques Courtine (2009). Na abertura dos capítulos dois e três, há uma seção que investiga as condições de produção das obras de Vossler e de Volochinov, respectivamente. A partir dessas seções, os capítulos desenvolvem os principais aspectos que norteiam o pensamento filosófico-linguístico de cada autor. Assim, propomos como pilares as obras de Vossler e de Volochinov para investigar de que forma as relações de constituição entre língua e história permeiam as obras desses autores, considerando as especificidades do pensamento de cada um deles. Com base na pesquisa conduzida, sustentamos que as obras de Volochinov e de Vossler, apesar das divergências, representam uma ampla parte do pensamento filosófico-linguístico do Leste e do Oeste europeu. Além disso, as nossas leituras sugerem a necessidade de que a Linguística mantenha sempre sua perspectiva em bases filosóficas e materialistas, na medida em que estas possibilitam uma investigação da língua sob o ponto de vista de suas relações com a história.

This research investigates how the Philosophy of Language in the first decades of the twentieth century maintains its focus on the relations between language, history, and subjectivity. For this, we performed the reading of two exponents of language studies in western and eastern Europe. The studies of the German linguist Karl Vossler are pioneers in the context of Western Europe as they highlight language as an object of national identity, which involves thinking of a specific concept of grammar and language in relation to the national question. We read the work of Vossler (1951), (1963), (2015) with a view to his reflections on language in relation to cultural history and to the idea of linguistic community, which leads us to understand how Vossler conceives subjectivity in language. Furthermore, Vossler's considerations on grammar allow delineating the concept of language in his thought. The Russian linguist Valentin Volochinov develops, in his work Marxism and Philosophy of Language (2018), a material concept of language that is based on the perspective of the ideological sign. The author builds a theory that focuses language studies from a materialist perspective, giving language an ideological status, and placing it in relation to what is social and historical. When producing his thesis, Volochinov criticizes two trends of philosophical-linguistic thought. Among them, the author names individualistic subjectivism as the first trend, which would have Vossler as one of its greatest representatives. Having exposed that, it is necessary to consider the historical conditions of production of the works listed above. Therefore, in an opening chapter, we theoretically explore the concept of production conditions from the perspective of Michel Pêcheux (2009), (2010) and Jean Jacques Courtine (2009). At the opening of chapters two and three, there is a section that investigates the conditions of production of Vossler's and Volochinov's works, respectively. From these sections on, the chapters develop the main aspects that involve the philosophical-linguistic thinking of each author. Thus, we propose as pillars the works of Vossler and Volochinov to investigate how the relations of constitution between language and history permeate the works of these authors, considering the specificities of each one of their thoughts. Based on the research carried out, we maintain that the works of Volochinov and Vossler, despite the divergences, represent a large part of the philosophical-linguistic thought of East and West Europe. In addition, our readings suggest the need for Linguistics to always maintain its perspective on philosophical and materialistic bases, as they may enable an investigation of language from the point of view of its relations with history.
