Os nomes dos outros : reflexões sobre os usos escolares da diversidade

Abstract

O travestismo discursivo parece ser uma marca da época. Com a mesma velocidade das mudanças tecnológicas, os discursos sociais se vestem com novas palavras que se acomodam sem conflito às intenções dos enunciadores do turno. Este artigo se pergunta em que medida retóricas de moda, como as que reivindicam o multiculturalismo ou a tolerância, estão anunciando pensamentos de ruptura a respeito das tradicionais formas de nomear a alteridade. Os autores discutem três versões sobre a diversidade: “o outro como fonte de todo mal”, “o outro como sujeito pleno de um grupo cultural” e “o outro como alguém a ser tolerado” e analisam as implicações de cada uma delas na linguagem escolar.

Disguised discourse seems to be a sign of the times. With the same speed as technological changes, societal discourse, unchallenged and concealed in new terminology, adapts itself to the purposes of the modern speaker. This paper takes the position of interrogating the rhetoric, which claims to be multicultural and tolerant, and asks if this rhetoric breaks away from traditional forms of naming the “other”. The authors discuss three views of diversity: “the other as the source of all evil”, “the other as complete subject of a cultural group” and “the other as someone to be tolerated” and analyzes the consequences of these views on educational discourse.
