A proteção do patrimônio eclético : a atuação do Estado no tombamento dos prédios de Theodor Wiederspahn no Centro Histórico de Porto Alegre

Abstract

O presente estudo apresenta a análise de três processos de tombamentos distintos, do prédio dos Correios e Telégrafos (também conhecido como Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul), Museu de Artes do Rio Grande do Sul e Hotel Majestic (hoje Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana). O objetivo principal da pesquisa é identificar as intenções e justificativas (valores) que fundamentaram as decisões de proteção das edificações mencionadas como patrimônio cultural. Utilizando o método de análise de conteúdo, elucidamos as motivações dos agentes responsáveis pela condução desses processos. A dissertação está estruturada em três capítulos. O primeiro dedicado a vida e o legado de Theodor Wiederspahn, arquiteto responsável pelas três edificações, bem como a trajetória desses prédios. O segundo evidencia o contexto histórico e político em que o arquiteto estava inserido durante a construção dos edifícios, como também o contexto em que as construções foram protegidas pelos seus respectivos órgãos de tombamento. E por último, é apresentado a análise dos documentos de tombamento.

The present study analysis three different processes of registration of the Post and Telegraphs building (also known as Rio Grande do Sul Memorial), Art Museum of Rio Grande do Sul and Hotel Majestic (now named Mario Quintana Culture House). The main objective of this research is to identify the intentions and justifications (values) that supported the government decisions to protect the buildings mentioned as cultural heritage. Using the content analysis method, we elucidated the motivations of the agents responsible for conducting these processes. The dissertation is structured in three chapters. The first dedicated to the life and legacy of Theodor Wiederspahn, architect responsible for the three buildings, as well as the trajectory of these buildings. The second highlights the historical and political context in which the architect was inserted during the construction of the buildings, as well as the context in which the buildings were considered cultural heritages by their respective listing bodies. And finally, in the third chapter, the analysis of the listing documents is presented.
