This paper analyzes the use of Twitter in national Latin American libraries and has as its principal objective to present the microblog as a dynamic web marketing tool in libraries. Therefore, the following subjects have been theoretically based: cyberspace, Internet in Brazil and in the world; Web 2.0; blogs; microblogs; Twitter; Library 2.0; Webmarketing; Public Library; Webmarketing in libraries. A qualitative methodology has been applied so that the quantity data is used solely as a basis for the qualitative analysis, characterized by an exploratory research. An online questionnaire was used as an instrument for collecting data, applied on 19 national Ibero-American libraries, besides a manual analysis of the Twitter profile in libraries that were researched as well as the ones that use it as a tool. This work brings forth information on the frequency of microblog postings made by libraries, the type of information disclosed, how long has Twitter been used, the level of user interactivity, as well as others. It has been concluded that the institutions participating in the research acknowledge that the use of a microblog contributes to making the library more visible to the community. In the comparison between national Ibero-American libraries that already use Twitter, the National Library Foundation of Brazil has been outstanding with an excellent usage of this tool in face of Webmarketing. However, there is much to study and to develop in this area once Library Science is in need of research related to the social web. Therefore, the expansion of the present study on other types of libraries is recommended as well as the application of research that verifies which tools are mostly used in what types of libraries, besides studies that compare the growth and popularity of those that use the Web 2.0 with those that do not.en
