O uso de sistemas de organização e rotulação por arquitetos de informação web : estudo de caso

Abstract

Os sistemas web precisam de Sistemas de Rotulação e Organização para organizar as informações neles contidas. A presente monografia tem como objetivo principal investigar o uso de sistemas de organização e rotulação pelos arquitetos da informação no desenvolvimento destes sistemas. O referencial teórico do estudo define a Arquitetura da Informação como a disciplina que sistematiza e organiza a informação para uma localização simplificada e eficiente do que o usuário procura. Apresenta, de forma breve, alguns dos sistemas de organização utilizados pelo homem, desde as classificações filosóficas de Platão e Aristóteles, até a pragmática Classificação Decimal de Dewey. Divide e exemplifica os esquemas de organização da informação, expõe as estruturas de organização para ambiente web, classifica os sistemas de rotulação, rótulos que representam informações, explica os sistemas de navegação, exibe relações entre a Biblioteconomia e a Arquitetura da Informação na Web, com um enfoque especial na relação da Biblioteconomia com Sistemas de Organização e Rotulagem, abordando princípios de Ranganathan e as linguagens documentárias. A investigação, com abordagem quanti-qualitativa, utiliza um questionário de questões abertas e fechadas, enviado de forma online para uma lista de discussão brasileira especializada em Arquitetura da Informação, composta por 80 usuários ativos. A coleta obteve retorno de 35%, considerado satisfatório devido à participação não restrita a Arquitetos da Informação na citada lista. Aponta que grande parte da amostra estudada possui pós-graduação e que utiliza a participação em listas de discussões como meio favorito de socialização e atualização profissional. Detecta porcentagem considerável de novos profissionais na área de Arquitetura da Informação e relaciona o tempo de atuação na área com a quantidade de projetos executados. Aponta um uso razoável de sistemas de rotulação em projetos por parte desses profissionais. Mensura a frequência do uso dos sistemas de rotulação por tipos, concluindo que o instrumento mais utilizado é o vocabulário controlado e o menos o tesauro. Analisa a presença das seguintes características dos sistemas de rotulação: hierarquia, definição de termos, equivalência e associação. Verifica ainda a existência de instrumentos informatizados que auxiliem no desenvolvimento dos sistemas de rotulação.

The web systems need Labeling and Organization Systems to organize the information within them. This work investigate the use of organizing and labeling systems for information architects to the development ofweb systems. The theoretical study defines information architecture as the discipline that classifies and organizes information for a simplified and efficient localization of the user demand. The work presents, briefly, some of the organizational systems used since Plato and Aristotle, to the pragmatic Dewey Decimal System. It divides and exemplifies the schemes of Information Architecture for organizing information in the web presents its organizational structures , classifies the IA labeling systems, explains its navigation systems, presents relations between the Librarianship and Information Architecture for the WWW, with a special focus on the relationship between Librarianship and Labeling and Organization Systems, addressing principles of Ranganathan and the documentary language. The research combines quantitative and qualitative approaches, uses a questionnaire with open and closed questions, sent to an electronic mailing list composed by brasilians experts in Information Architecture, with 80 active users. We obtained a return rate of 35%, which was considered satisfactory due to the participation of non-professionals in the list. The work points out that the most of the sample is post-graduated and uses mailing lists as primary way for socialization and professional development. It detects a significant number of new professionals in the field of Information Architecture and relatees their work experience in the area with the number of projects executed by them. It points to a reasonable use of labeling systems in these projects by AI professionals. It measures the frequency of use of the types of labeling systems, concluding that the most used instruments are the controlled vocabulary, and the least used are thesauri. It analyzes the presence of the following characteristics on labeling systems: hierarchy, definitions of terms, equivalence and association. And, it also verifies the existence of computerized tools that assist in the development of labeling systems.
