966 do Código Civil1. A especialidade do serviço é a característica primária dessas empresas.
Intellectual activity companies are the ones involved in scientific, artistic and literature activities, even though they have employees, according to the Brazilian Civil Code, art. 966. Examples of intellectual activity companies: law firms, consulting firms in economy, accounting firms and architecture firms. These firms, as well as the other kinds of business, has its cost and expenses. However, there is no criterion to perform the accountancy of these costs. The traditional methods cannot calculate how much an hour of legal consultancy is, or an opinion on corporate governance, for example. This type of activity is based on finding solutions to client’s problems, but the solutions are not standardized products or services. The specialty of the service is the main characteristic of these firms or companies. The boards of class (OAB, CFC, CREA, CONFEA and others) tried to solve this issue through Tables of Fees, which describes the service and defines the amount to be charged. However, these tables are generic and do not apply to any business, as a company is different to the other, yet they have the same social objective. By analyzing the situation, two methods of calculation emerge as an opportunity to assess these costs: the ABC (activity-based costing) and the TDABC (time-driven activity-based costing). In this article, we are going to examine these two methods. Through the verification of its characteristics, we are going to calculate the cost of intellectual activity, and, in the end, determine which one provides greater information about the firm’s financial situation, that is, what method can more accurately reflect the actual costs of intellectual activities. In the present study will examine the methods and TDABC ABC. Through the verification of its characteristics, the forms will be collected to identify the elements for calculating the cost of intellectual activities, and, last, to identify which method brings greater clarity in the results, that is, which method can more accurately reflect reality costs of intellectual activities. The result of the analysis was that the TDABC costing method is most suitable for service providers of intellectual activities, due to lower use of estimates, the possibility of working costs in line with the complexity of the service and the possibility direct costs of activities directly, generating a greater control over the system of the company's costs.en
