Estudo comparativo entre as economias cubana e haitiana : de 1990 a 2010

Abstract

O presente estudo tem por objetivo analisar os principais eventos que marcaram a economia, a política e a sociedade de Cuba e do Haiti nos anos de 1990 até 2010, a fim de verificar se com o fim da União das Repúblicas Socialistas Soviéticas, e o início do processo de democratização haitiana, aqueles países iriam se aproximar em termos de desenvolvimento humano e econômico. Além do período de vinte e um anos acima descrito, estudamos também as histórias econômicas das duas nações a fim de identificar as semelhanças, e as mudanças institucionais mais marcantes ao longo da formação de suas sociedades. Por fim, relacionamos as consequências históricas com as estatísticas atuais na tentativa de traçar um esboço do que realmente teria acontecido para que o Haiti se tornasse o país mais pobre da América Latina, enquanto Cuba viesse a figurar como importante país em termos de distribuição de renda.

The present study aims to analyze the main events that marked the economy, politics and society in Cuba and Haiti in the years 1990 to 2010 in order to verify that with the end of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the beginning of the process Haitian democratization, those countries would be closer in terms of economic and human development. In the period of twenty-one years above described, we also studied the economic histories of the two nations in order to identify the similarities and the most striking institutional changes over the formation of their societies. Finally, we relate the historical consequences to current statistics in an attempt to draw a sketch of what had actually happened to that Haiti became the poorest country in Latin America, while Cuba would appear as an important country in terms of income distribution.
