Revitalização da literatura através do cinema : uma experiência com As Crônicas de Nárnia

Abstract

A proposta deste trabalho é apresentar o cinema como um aliado da literatura, demonstrar que a literatura pode se enriquecer através de adaptações cinematográficas baseadas em obras literárias. Para tanto, foram utilizados conceitos de tradução, adaptação e sobrevida. Segundo Walter Benjamin (1979), quando um texto é traduzido e transformado em outro texto, há a morte do texto original e o renascimento do novo texto. A obra que serviu como objeto de estudo para esta pesquisa foi As Crônicas de Nárnia, de C. S. Lewis. O cinema contribuiu muito para o reposicionamento dessa obra no polissistema literário brasileiro, pois as adaptações cinematográficas – dirigidas por Andrew Adamson em 2005 e em 2008, e por Michael Apted em 2010 - lhe conferiram sobrevida. Para a elaboração deste trabalho foram feitas coletas de dados com base em acervos de universidades, para a verificação do número de edições disponíveis da obra antes e depois da sua primeira adaptação. Além disso, foi feita uma pesquisa com pessoas que conheciam a obra, para identificar o público leitor e suas motivações.

The purpose of this paper is to present cinema as an ally to literature, demonstrate that literature can be enriched by cinematographic adaptations of literary works. The theoretical framework included concepts of translation, adaptation and afterlife. According to Walter Benjamin (1979), when a text is translated and transformed into another text, there is the death of the original text and the renaissance of the new text. The work used as object of study in this research was The Chronicles of Narnia, by C. S. Lewis. Cinema has contributed a lot for the repositioning of this work in the Brazilian literary polysystem, because its cinematographic adaptations – directed by Andrew Adamson in 2005 and 2008, and by Michael Aptedem 2010 - granted it afterlife. For the elaboration of this paper data was collected in the literary collections of some university libraries. This was done in order to verify the number of editions of the work available before and after its first adaptation. Moreover, a research was made with people who knew the work, in order to identify the readers and their motivations.
