Análise da evolução dos estereótipos de gênero e suas relações com a desigualdade econômica e social no Brasil

Abstract

Este trabalho investiga a relação entre a desigualdade socioeconômica e os estereótipos de gênero, tendo o mercado de trabalho como foco principal de análise. Trata-se de uma pesquisa na área de economia política da discriminação por gênero, que tem como objetivo aplicar essa teoria ao contexto brasileiro dos últimos 20 anos. Primeiramente, é feita uma breve discussão que busca esclarecer alguns conceitos utilizados nesse trabalho: sexo, gênero e estereótipo de gênero. Posteriormente, é feita uma breve revisão das principais vertentes das escolas feministas e uma síntese entre a escola feminista marxista e as teorias do patriarcado, a fim de identificar e problematizar a relação entre o capitalismo e o patriarcado. É feita uma análise de alguns dados da Inglaterra e dos Estados Unidos para o período da Revolução Industrial, as grandes guerras mundiais e a crise de 1929 para compreender como essas estruturas se articularam nesses importantes movimentos históricos e como elas afetaram a vida das mulheres. Por fim, são analisados alguns dados relativos ao Brasil dos últimos 20 anos. A análise empírica indica que, ao contrário de um senso comum generalizado, as mulheres não estão se igualando aos homens no mercado de trabalho. A pesquisa conclui que o Brasil parece estar avançando no sentido de encontrar uma síntese entre o capitalismo e o patriarcado que inclui as mulheres no mercado de trabalho em posições que reforçam os estereótipos de gênero. Essa síntese é dialética e altera-se no tempo, mas não demonstra que está de fato igualando as mulheres aos homens, como desejado de uma perspectiva igualitária.

This research investigates the relations between socioeconomic inequality and gender stereotypes, focusing on the labor market as the main subject of analysis. It is an investigation on the field of political economy of gender discrimination, which aims to apply this theory to the Brazilian context on the last 20 years. First, there is a brief discussion that seeks to clarify some concepts used in this work: sex, gender and gender stereotype. Subsequently, there is a brief review of the main strands of feminist schools and a synthesis between the Marxist feminist and the theories of patriarchy in order to identify and analyze the relation between capitalism and patriarchy. An analysis of data from Britain and the United States for the period of the industrial revolution, the world wars and the crisis of 1929 is made in order to understand how these structures were articulated in these important historical movements and how they affected the lives of women. Finally, there is an examination of some data relating to Brazil in the last 20 years. The empirical analysis indicates that, on the contrary of what general common sense suggests, women are not equating to men in the labor market. The research concludes that Brazil seems to be moving towards finding a synthesis between capitalism and patriarchy that includes women in the labor market in positions that reinforce gender stereotypes. This synthesis is dialectical and changes in time, but the results do not show that women are actually equating to men, as desired on an egalitarian perspective.
