This paper reports the occurrence of the genus Centropomus (Osteychityes: Perciformes: Centropomidae), popularly known by snook or robalo, in the region Tramandaí River estuary and coastal lagoons of the northern coast of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The lack of specific work on the species of this genus, for this region, led to the production of this work in order to confirm the presence of these diadromus fishes in this region, confirming that the site of this study presents gender as native. There are few published works on the fish fauna of the region showing the presence of individuals in this genre, but there is no data to clarify the status of its kind in the region, sometimes even being described as accidental species, being mistakenly included in the literature review of gender as present in Porto Alegre, RS. The specific bibliographies not clearly show the southern limit of its occurrence in the Atlantic Ocean, just North Carolina in the U.S. as its northern limit of occurrence is virtually impossible to find quotes on their occurrence in Rio Grande do Sul. Through contact with fishermen, surveys conducted in ichthyological collections and analysis of specimens, it was found that species of this genus are present on the northern coast of the state in various stages of development and throughout the year. The specimens were collected from the artisanal fishermen and anglers in the region during the months of January to May 2012. The study attempted to ascertain exactly which species of Centropomus be occurring in this region, and displayed the kind ¬ Centropomus parallelus, popularly known by robalo-peva (fat snook), as captured with a predominance in the region, and the presence of the species Centropomus mexicanus, robalo-corcunda (fat snook large scale), as occurring in sympatry. Indicating the need to review the situation and taxonomic distribution of species in southern Brazil, reviewing the southern boundary of the Atlantic Ocean ocorrênia of every kind Centropomus.en
