This research is based on the everyday concerns of a public elementary school teacher who – by being exposed to the concepts of “artist teaching” (Loponte 2005), “aesthetics of existence” (Foucault 2004b), and “life as artwork” (Nietzsche 2012) – looks for different possibilities in her teaching practice. Connecting the ideas mentioned above and based on evidence from daily school experiences, the notion of “live teaching” is introduced, also arising from a specific concern: to think about what the teachers are making of themselves in the school life (Gallo 2008). This is not the search for a formula, solution, or prescription, but a pursuit for thinking school life through our relationship with art, education, and teaching, aiming for a life between, with and/or based on these relationships. Art is part of this research in two ways. Firstly, connected to the relationship between art and life according to theoretical references, implying a stance before life, and the way of doing research. Secondly, through projects and artworks that discuss school education, denaturalizing it, calling for reflection and thus enabling reflection on the practice of teaching. With the above being included in the investigation as part of the emergence of a discourse about the “rethinking of education.” Along with it, different initiatives and projects that also characterize this emergence are listed. Focusing on the search of a living pedagogy and on the ways of being a teacher implied by it, three educational practices were chosen as a means to offer a more attentive look: Escola Projeto Âncora, in Coria, São Paulo; Escola Viva Inkiri, in Piracanga, Península de Maraú, Bahia; and the Escuela Pedagogica Experimental (EPE), in the city of Bogota, Colombia. It is worth noting that, at first, what mattered in these practices was an apparently “more artist education”, less compartmentalized, less frayed, and more aligned with everyday needs. The observation of these educational and artistic practices intendeds to investigate experiences that enable reflection upon other/new ways of experiencing the school and understanding what sustains these practices, what makes them possible, and what determines the attitudes they adopt. This paper is not aimed at scrutinizing implied truths, but at understanding the relationships between the subjects and those truths – both to think about a living pedagogy and how those relationships could contribute with ideas about this pedagogy in contemporary education. For this, a central question is elucidated: how is it possible to consider a teaching ethics for a living pedagogy in the contemporary school? And more: What kind of ethic requires a living pedagogy? In which way living educational practices and thinking characterized by art can change the ways of being a teacher and the constitution of this ethic? It must be said from the beginning that we do not have the exact answers for these questions, however, trough the theoretical references and by examining empirical material, there is strong indication that the ethics linked to a choice of existence based on constant work on oneself and with others may ensure a less resigned existence.en
