This thesis presents the synthesis of a series of cationic and neutral heptametene cyanines using classical methodologies adapted from the literature and/or employing commercial reagents. In addition, the photophysical behavior of these compounds was studied using UV-Vis-NIR absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopies in solution of different solvents. A positive solvatochromic behavior was observed for compounds 94-96, which allowed an additional study using the Lippert-Mataga relation as a function of the solvent polarity. It was possible to measure the dipole moments in both ground and the excited states of compounds in pure solvents and solvent mixtures. Photophysical studies in solid phase were also performed to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the compounds on the surface of TiO2. Only compounds 91-93 showed significant adsorption. Furthermore, absorption spectra in the UV-Vis-NIR region of these compounds showed an increase and widening of the band attributed to the formation of H-type aggregates (740nm). In order to reduce the formation of H aggregates on the TiO2 surface, it was used as additive the deoxycholic acid, under different adsorption, temperature, time and concentration conditions of both studied compounds and deoxycholic acid. This methodology allowed the modulation of the bandwidth and the intensity of the band assigned to the H (740nm) aggregation efficiently. All compounds had their HOMO and LUMO energy levels, identified by cyclic voltammetry, and the compounds presented oxidation and reduction potentials within acceptable limits for application as a TiO2 photosensitizer in organic dyes sensitized by organic dyes (DSCs). Organic dyes sensitized by organic dyes (DSCs) were made with compounds 91-93, without the co-adsorption of deoxycholic acid. Additionally, with the presence of deoxycholic acid there was a considerable increase in the efficiency values , showing its light-converting capacity in current power. The solvatochromic behavior of compounds 94-96 allowed the study of these as chemosensors to identify adulteration of common gasoline, allowing the application of these compounds as markers of this type of fuel.en
