Multiculturalismo x liberalismo : um balanço crítico entre Will Kymlicka e Brian Barry

Abstract

O presente trabalho vai operar a partir de três pretensões iniciais: a primeira corresponde à apresentação das principais críticas elaboradas por Will Kymlicka, aqui identificados enquanto multiculturalista, ao liberalismo igualitário. A partir da apresentação dessas críticas, vamos mostrar as principais respostas elaboradas a elas por Brian Barry, identificado aqui enquanto pertencente à visão liberal. O eixo das críticas que foram selecionadas ao longo da monografia contemplam os temas de direitos de grupos x direitos individuais e as visões de liberalismo apresentadas por ambos autores, Barry e Kymlicka. Após a apresentação das críticas do multiculturalismo de Kymlicka e a subsequente resposta do liberalismo de Barry vamos propor um balanço crítico, identificando: (a) quais críticas foram respondidas pelo liberalismo; (b) Como essas respostas foram construídas; (c) qual o saldo que podemos tirar desse debate estabelecido entre multiculturalismo e liberalismo igualitário.

The present term paper will operate from three initial pretensions: the first one corresponds to the presentation of the main criticisms elaborated (or made) by Will Kymlicka, here identified as the multiculturalist, to egalitarian liberalism. From the presentation of these criticisms, we will show the main answers elaborated by Brian Barry identified here as belonging to the liberal vision. The center of the critics that were selected throughout the monograph contemplates the subjects of rights of groups x individual rights and the different visions of liberalism presented by both authors, Barry and Kymlicka. After presenting the critiques of Kymlicka's multiculturalism and the subsequent response of Barry's liberalism, we will propose a critical assessment, identifying: (a) what critiques were answered by liberalism; (b) How these responses were constructed; (c) what balance can we draw from this debate between multiculturalism and egalitarian liberalism.
