O esplendor da ficção : o boom da literatura latino-americana e a obra de Mario Vargas Llosa

Abstract

O presente trabalho busca apresentar um levantamento histórico o mais completo possível do movimento conhecido como boom, surgido na América Latina durante a prodigiosa década de 60, e que modificou radicalmente a história do romance contemporâneo. São inventariados os momentos decisivos de sua formação, os principais autores e as obras essenciais, além do vínculo indissolúvel entre produção literária e os tumultuosos acontecimentos revolucionários daqueles anos. Procura-se igualmente apontar, nas narrativas do período, os procedimentos comuns de escrita, os audaciosos vôos imaginativos e as formas distintas de percepção e transfiguração da realidade. Dá-se destaque, sobremodo, ao relato La ciudad y los perros, de Mario Vargas Llosa, pela natureza emblemática de sua complexa arquitetura ficcional e também por sua espessa crispação ética, dilatada pela ambição do autor em criar um romance totalizante. Por fim, registra-se a importância das obras do boom e as de Vargas Llosa no contexto da novelística ocidental e o extraordinário fulgor desses textos cujas reverbarações se expandiram de maneira intensa e avassaladora até os nossos dias.

This work aims to present a historical survey, as complete as possible, of the movement known as boom, which emerged in Latin America during the prodigious 1960s, and which radically changed the history of the contemporary novel. The decisive formation moments, the main authors and the essential works are here inventoried, as also the indissoluble bond between literary production and the tumultuous revolutionary events of those years. Furthermore, there is an effort to point out, in the narratives of the period, the common procedures of writing, the audacious imaginative flights of the authors and the distinct forms of perception and transfiguration of reality. The story of Mario Vargas Llosa's "La ciudad y los perros" (The city and the dogs) is highlighted by the emblematic nature of its complex fictional architecture and also by its thick ethical tension, which has been enlarged by the author's ambition to create a totalizing novel. Finally, we note the importance of the works of the boom and those of Vargas Llosa in the context of Western novelism and the extraordinary brilliance of these texts whose reverberations have expanded in an intense and overwhelming way to the present days.
