Os judeus nas constituições de Melfi (1231)

Abstract

Este trabalho utiliza como fonte primária as Constituições de Melfi, ou Liber Augustalis, fonte jurídica proveniente do Reino da Sicília no século XIII. Analisa-se como os judeus são nela representados a partir das menções a eles e do contexto social da época. Nesta época era recorrente, não apenas no Reino da Sicília, mas no continente europeu como um todo, que os judeus fossem representados através do estereótipo de usurário, culpados de acusações como assassinato ritual e profanação de hóstias, além da difusão de lendas em relação a sua cultura e religião. O trabalho será desenvolvido em três capítulos, sendo o primeiro referente à teoria e metodologia empregada no desenvolvimento da pesquisa e o contexto do período; o segundo capítulo tratará de aspectos gerais da história do Reino da Sicília, bem como a apresentação de Frederico II, Afonso X e Luís IX, exemplos de reis legisladores do século XIII e, ao final, será apresentada a fonte utilizada no trabalho; no terceiro capítulo a fonte será analisada a partir do recorte pretendido, trazendo-se citações da fonte que se referem aos judeus. Nas considerações finais, serão apresentados os resultados, onde se concluirá que a forma como os judeus são retratados nas Constituições de Melfi condizem com a maneira como eram representados em outras fontes do período e reproduziam os estereótipos ligados a este grupo.

This academic work uses the Constitutions of Melfi, or Liber Augustalis, a legal source from the Reign of Sicily in the thirteenth century. It analyzes how the jews are represented in it according to the mentions to them and to the social context of the time. By that time, it was usual, not only in the Reign of Sicily, but in the whole continent, that jews were represented through stereotypes of usurers, blamed of crimes like ritual murder and desecration of water, besides the diffusion of legends related to their culture and religion. The work will be developed in three chapters. The first one referring to the theory and methodology used on the making of this research and the context of the time; the second one referring to general aspects of the sicilian history and will introduce Frederick II, Afonso X and Louis IX, exemples of lawmaking kings of the thirteenth century and, by the end, it will be presented the source used in this work; in the third chapter, the source will be analyzed and citations will be presented referring to the jews. In the conclusion, the results will show that the way jews are represented in the Constitutions of Melfi correspond with the way they are represented in other source of the period and repeat the stereotypes related to them.
