The aim of this work was to evaluate the impact that the modification in the procedure of injection of oxygen, the addition of ferroalloys with a major affinity for oxygen and the reduction in the level of oxidation of the bath has on the oxidation of present chromium in the steel during the martensitic stainless steel manufacture, as well as the analysis of possible collateral effect and the viability of application of these modifications during the flow of routine of the operations of fusing and refining in the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). To reach these objectives 3 experiments had been carried through, each one with a point of distinct performance one of the others, as follows: · Revision of the procedures of refining of steel AISI 420, minimizing the injections of oxygen for decarburation of the steel I eliminate, restricting them it the result of chemical composition of the bath throughout the process in the FEA; · Adition of ferroalloy Fe-Si 75% in the buckets, amount calculated by means of thermodynamic equations of the literature, in order to reduce the oxidation of chromium due the preferential formation the silicon oxide; · To remove the injectors of oxygen of the FEA, the Cojets, acting in this way in the level of available oxygen in the bath and allowing major income of the metallic load during the fusing process, refining and reduction in the oven. The results of the experiments had demonstrated that the preponderant factor to improve the reduction of chromium oxide is the reduction of the available oxygen in the bath, and this in case that, the best ones resulted had been reached with the addition of Fe-Si 75% in the bucket (a gain of 21%, sample E2) and the removal of the Cojets (a gain of 34%, sample E2), having this last one presented an advance in the optimization of the conditions of reduction of chromium oxides of the slag. The results were valued in the percentage form.en
