A construção imagética de um fenômeno : o apagamento de um distrito

Abstract

Esta pesquisa objetiva investigar, descrever e problematizar no âmbito teórico um fenômeno urbano através da percepção por imagens. O fenômeno percebido, em um campo subjetivo, trata-se do apagamento dos registros históricos imagéticos de uma área urbana da cidade de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. A área em questão é o IV Distrito, região que, em seus primórdios, possuía marcantes traços industriais e hoje encontra-se em plena descaracterização. A percepção de sua ausência nos álbuns fotográficos históricos de Porto Alegre levantou questionamentos sobre sua possível relação com as atuais condições da área. Dada a falta de registros imagéticos, percebeu-se fenômeno de um certo “apagamento” no campo imagético. Por este motivo, a pesquisa assume um caráter fenomenológico, que visa investigar, descrever e problematizar teoricamente como este fenômeno acontece. O apagamento de algo dos registros históricos toca em questões acerca de memória e esquecimento, bem como seus usos e abusos. As transformações sociais que decorrem também são relacionadas com o fenômeno, através da Sociedade do Espetáculo, de Guy Debord, e dos conceitos de liquidez e sociedade de consumidores, de Zygmunt Bauman. Além de tais questões, levanta-se o debate sobre o esquecimento dentro do ambiente urbano, atingindo as questões de patrimônio industrial, o qual vem passando por transformações e é comumente associado a questões de abandono e vazio. Como suporte para a construção dos resultados, analisa-se a metodologia de Georges Didi-Huberman para análise e interpretação de imagens, o qual busca adentrar nos campos mais subjetivos e sensíveis, dando voz ao observador e liberdade para que este descreva o que vê além do primeiro olhar. Como resultado, obtém-se uma construção imagética, que faz uso de imagens representativas dos indícios da ocorrência do fenômeno, aliadas à produção textual, que mescla descrição e lirismo, obtendo-se, assim, um convite a uma reflexão teórica.

This research aims to investigate, describe and problematize an urban phenomenon in the theoretical scope through image perception. The perceived phenomenon, in a subjective field, is the erasure of the imagetic historical records of an urban area at the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The referred area is the IV District, a region that, in its early days, had striking industrial features and today is in full decharacterization. The perception of their absence in the historical photographic albums of Porto Alegre raised questions about their possible relationship with the current conditions of the area. Given the lack of imagery records, the existence of a phenomenon of a certain “erasure” in the imagetic field was noticed. Because of it, the research assumes a phenomenological character, which aims on investigating, describing and theoretically problematizing how this phenomenon happens. The erasure of something from historical records embraces on questions regarding memory and forgetfulness, as well as their uses and abuses. The resulting social transformations are also related to the phenomenon through Guy Debord's The Society of Spectacle and Zygmunt Bauman's concepts of liquidity and consumer society. In addition to these issues, the debate on forgetfulness within the urban environment arises, addressing the issues of industrial heritage, which has been undergoing transformations and is commonly associated with abandonment and emptiness. To support the construction of the results, Georges Didi-Huberman's methodology for image analysis and interpretation is analyzed, seeking to enter the most subjective and sensitive fields, giving the observer voice and freedom to describe what they see beyond the first look. As a result, an imagetic construction is obtained, which makes use of representative images that evidence the phenomenon occurrence, allied to the textual production, mixing description and lyricism, thus obtaining an invitation to a theoretical reflection.
