From a constructivist perspective of journalism and social representations as constituents of gender relations, we sought to answer the following research problem: Which representations of the feminine are produced and conveyed by the series Fantastic Women on Fantástico? To this end, our general objective was to analyze the meanings surrounding social gender roles from the representations of the feminine in the episodes of the series Fantastic Women produced and aired by Fantástico, aired by Rede Globo. The specific objectives were a) to contextualize the Fantástico program as an active instance in the construction of social gender roles; b) to understand which women are presented as fantastic by the program; c) to identify possible stereotypes or dominant representations in the episodes of Mulheres Fantásticas; and d) to identify possible codes negotiated in the representations of the feminine in Mulheres Fantásticas. From a descriptive and qualitative research, we chose the bibliographic research and the analysis of social representations from Hall (1980, 2016, 1994) and his contributions regarding the processes of media coding and decoding as methodological procedures. We address the specificities of the telejournalism of Fantástico, which mixes entertainment and journalism on television (BOURDIEU, 1997; STEFFEN, 2013, LAGO, 2014), the concept of gender and its incidence today (HARAWAY, 2004; BIROLI, 2021; PEREZ AND RICOLDI, 2019) and the social representations (FRANÇA, 2004; ARRUDA, 2009; CABECINHAS, 2009) with their implications on gender relations, going through concepts such as dominant representations, stereotypes, naturalization and transcoding (HALL, 2016). The protagonists of the painting are mostly black, are between 25 and 40 years old, are from the South and Southeast of Brazil, and are of lower class. There is only one disabled woman and no transsexual. There is a reiteration of heteronormativity as the destiny of women, as well as the place of care. Of the dominant representations, we highlight those of submissive and maternal women. The picture is sometimes limited to stereotypes of women overcoming all difficulties, without discussing the origin of this. The negotiated representations, on the other hand, which contest the dominant ones and aim to transcode, operate both through stereotypical otherness and visibility. There is a dispute of meanings in the picture that sometimes reiterates the dominant representations, and sometimes seeks to contest them through negotiated representations.en
