A Ciência da Informação e sua contribuição para a avaliação do conhecimento científico

Abstract

O estudo objetiva compreender a importância da contribuição da Ciência da Inf ormação para a avaliação da produção do conhecimentocientíf icoa partir de uma pesquisa bibliográf ica. Apresenta a evolução histórica da área abordada, a sua relação c om as mediçõesquantitativasda ciência e as técnicas de análise estatística: bibliometria e cientometria. Conclui que a Ciência da Inf ormação, a partir da def inição de leis e teorias, f ez contribuições valiosas para a avaliação do conhecimentocientíf icoporque possibilita o entendimento do comportamento e a estrutura da produção científ ica utilizada nas análises métricas que se encontraindexada nos sistemas inf ormatizados.

It presents the historical evolution of the ar ea covered, their relationship w ith quantitative measurements of scienc e and techniques of statistical analysis: bibliometricsand scientometrics. It concludes that the Inf ormation Science, f rom the def inition of law s and theories, made valuable contributions to the assessment of cientif ic know ledge because it enables the understanding of the behavior and structure of scientific production metrics used in analysis that is indexed in the computer systems.
