This paper studied the variation of the minimum volume of a cylinder (motor unit) between: the minimum volume calculated by the 3D modeling software and the minimum volume measured in a produced cylinder produced. As the thermal efficiency is proportional to the compression ratio, the greater is the compression ratio the greater is the cylinder thermal efficiency. It is extremely important for the manufacturer to produce the cylinder with the minimum volume as close as possible to the project specification. Besides, the difference is detrimental to the development of new cylinders. The scope of this work is to evaluate the variation in volume between the 3D modeling software and the volume measured in the burette. A three years production historical of the cylinder showed that the quotas with influences on the minimum volume are close to their nominal specification. An analysis was made of the influence of some quotas related to the combustion chamber in the cylinder minimum volume where it was concluded that the variation in those quotas within their tolerances, not change beyond the project boundary the cylinder minimum volume. An analysis of the measurement system was made where it was found that the burette used to measure the volume was properly calibrated. It was also identified the existence of an empty space that is affecting the measurement of cylinder minimum volume.en
