Guerreiro Ramos : uma sociologia da organização dos povos (1958-1964)

Abstract

O presente trabalho consiste na investigação sobre a teoria social produzida pelo sociólogo Alberto Guerreiro Ramos no contexto do pré-64 (1958-1964). Figura emblemática e atuante nos círculos nacionalistas do Rio de Janeiro, conciliou magistério e pesquisa sociológica com a carreira no funcionalismo público de nível técnico, mantendo paralelamente vigorosas intervenções no debate público sobre ciência e projeto nacional. Vetor de muitas polêmicas, decidiu aprofundar seu conhecimento político sobre o país em 1959 ao integrar o Diretório Nacional do PTB, momento no qual experimentou de modo mais intenso a conjuntura brasileira, procurando adequar sua teoria sociológica às necessidades e demandas do povo e daqueles que, assim como ele, aspiravam colocar-se enquanto sua vanguarda. Tal radicalização política teve como fio condutor a redução sociológica, pressuposto teórico-metodológico de importância capital na obra guerreiriana. Assim, interpelamos o modo no qual Guerreiro Ramos experimentou a redução sociológica junto à efervescência cultural e política que antecedeu o golpe civil-militar de 1964, com vistas a evidenciar as implicações dessa práxis tanto no plano da sociologia brasileira quanto na edificação de um projeto de país. Mais do que uma aposta frustrada na construção de um capitalismo autônomo e de uma sociologia nacional, há virtualidades e potenciais não explorados na produção teórica do autor precedente aos anos de chumbo, de modo que a relação entre sociologia e revolução permanece fecunda frente aos desafios que a história tem colocado àqueles inclinados a pensar e transformar o Brasil e o mundo contemporâneo. Ao examinarmos as principais obras do sociólogo baiano no período delimitado, além de um conjunto de textos publicados na mídia impressa, percebemos a emergência de uma sociologia da organização dos povos na forma pela qual Guerreiro atribuiu valor pragmático à sua teoria sociológica. O itinerário que fomos pavimentando ao inquirir a materialidade da documentação e cotejar dois tipos de fonte (livros e textos de jornal) constituiu nossa metodologia de pesquisa à luz da etnografia de arquivos.

The present work consists of an investigation into the social theory produced by the sociologist Alberto Guerreiro Ramos in the pre-64 context (1958-1964). An emblematic and active figure in nationalist circles in Rio de Janeiro, he reconciled teaching and sociological research with a career in public service at a technical level, while at the same time maintaining vigorous interventions in the public debate on science and the national project. Subject of many controversies, he decided to deepen his political knowledge of the country in 1959 by joining the National Direction of the PTB, when he experienced the Brazilian situation more intensely, seeking to adapt his sociological theory to the needs and demands of the people and those who, like him, aspired to place themselves as its vanguard. Such political radicalization had the sociological reduction as its guiding principle, a theoretical-methodological assumption of capital importance in the guerreiriana work. Thus, we question the way in which Guerreiro Ramos experienced the sociological reduction along with the cultural and political effervescence that preceded the civil-military coup of 1964, with the means to highlight the implications of this praxis both in terms of Brazilian sociology and in the construction of a project of country. Much more than a frustrated bet on the construction of an autonomous capitalism and a national sociology, there are virtualities and unexplored potentials in the theoretical production of the author preceding the “years of lead”, so that the relationship between sociology and revolution remains fruitful in the face of the challenges that history has placed upon those inclined to think and transform Brazil and the contemporary world. When we examine the main works of the sociologist from Bahia in the delimited period, in addition to a set of texts published in the printed media, we perceive the emergence of a sociology of the organization of peoples in the way in which Guerreiro attributed pragmatic value to his sociological theory. The itinerary that we paved when investigating the materiality of the documentation and comparing two types of sources (books and newspaper texts) constituted our research methodology in light of the ethnography of archives.
