This investigation aims to analyze the violence between Christians and Jews that underlies the texts and images of the Códice Rico das Cantigas de Santa Maria (CSM), a set of poems written, set to music and illustrated at the court of King Alfonso X of León and Castile, in the second half of the 13th century. In the Christian kingdom of Castile, although tolerated, Jews lived under the stigma of a series of accusations and stereotypes of religious, economic, and cultural nature, which shaped the anti-Jewish repertoire that stigmatized and marginalized Castilian Sephardic communities. This repertoire circulated by means of many material supports, such as texts and images, which included collections that narrated miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary. Among the Cantigas selected in this research, we chose those in which there is a strong relationship between the Jews and the accusation against them, of being deicidal and infanticidal. Thus, in our analysis, we chose four of them, as they contain central elements that, together, established the basis for the accusation of ritual murder and pronation of the consecrated host, whose relationship between the two has the child as a connecting element. The methodology used in this research consists of a qualitative analysis of the texts and images of cantigas 4, 6, 12 and 108, considering the dialectical relationship in their relationship. Thus, we approach the postulates of Jean-Claude Schmitt (2007), according to which the medieval pictorial image should not be considered as a mere illustration of a text, however much it may accompany it. The image is an element that has its own resources of expression and representation, which amplify or compress textual aspects. Furthermore, the analysis of images must consider the socio-cultural context in which these productions are inserted. In this way, we analyzed the social dynamics of the relations between Christians and Jews in the kingdom of Castile, taking into account several aspects that mediated the social and religious coexistence of these two communities. Based on the analyzes carried out, we assume the importance of the CSM as a work that used and disseminated a repertoire of stigmatization of Jews, by means of its text and images, contributing to the construction of a symbolic repertoire of anti-Jewish violence in the 13th century. ...
