As mudanças na cultura e no imperialismo norte-americano no início do século XXI

Abstract

Com a chegada do século XXI, o mundo vê-se, novamente, frente a um novo período de transição. Durante a década de 90 o mundo presenciou um momento de supremacia hegemônica dos Estados Unidos, com a consolidacão do neoliberalismo e com a expectativa dos EUA serem os responsáveis pela tentativa de construção de um novo sistema internacional pós-Guerra Fria. Todavia, o início do novo século pôs tudo isso em xeque, em virtude das rápidas e intensas transformações políticas, econômicas e sociais que o mundo tem presenciado nos últimos anos. Assim, nota-se que os EUA, abalados pela crise financeira de 2008, vivem um momento de transição, no qual terão de se adaptar ao novo cenário interno e externo. Esse trabalho tem por objetivo investigar como a política externa dos Estados Unidos vem mudando nos últimos anos, sendo dado um enfoque especial a como o imperialismo norte-americano vem se adaptando às mudanças no cenário interno e externo e quais serão as mudanças que os norte-americanos devem promover em prol da manutenção da estrutura social, econômica e política atuais e, consequentemente, perpetuando sua posição de liderança externa.

With the arrival of the 21st century, the world finds itself once again facing a new period of transition. During the 90’s the world witnessed a moment of hegemonic supremacy of the United States, with the consolidation of the neoliberalism and the expectation of the US being responsible for the construction of a new internation system after the Cold War. However, the new century put it all in check, as the recent years fast and intense political, economic and social problems that the world has faced. Thus, it is noted that the US, shaken by the 2008 financial crises, live a moment of transition, which it will have to adapt to the new internal and external scenario. The goal of this paper is to investigate how US foreign policy has been changing in the recent years, special emphasis being given to how US imperialism has adapted to changes in the internal and external scenary and which changes US should promote in order to maintain its social, economic and political structure and, thus, perpetuating its leadership position outside.
