Abstract
The objective of this study is to verify the influence of mechanical tension and the lubrication condition on the system’s efficiency, which is made of power transmission chains used in bicycles. To perform it, a bike variable-ratio transmission system derailleur gears was adapted to a dynamometer and, through direct comparison between the engine torque, the torque on the a rheostatic brake and their respective rotations, it was possible to quantify the efficiency of the system. Based on these results, it was concluded that the condition of lubrication does not change the mechanical efficiency of the system and also, when increasing the tension on the power transmission system, it makes the system 64,5% more efficient. ...
